(re-post)
It wasn't obvious from a distance but I persevered and tracked down a small beach where much tumbled glass covers the shore. Story (possibly legend, time having to be a factor) has it that this was a partying beach where merrymakers threw their empty bottles onto the rocks and the resultant smashed glass got tossed and turned by the waves.
I had imagined you could scoop up handfuls of different coloured glass but in reality there is much clear and brown and some green but to come up with the awesome blue and the pretty green it is necessary to sweep through the sand and stones.
Which, after awhile, I found more satisfying. And got me wondering what the blue came from. The pieces were very small and gave no idea of origin. Milk of Magnesia? Blue wine bottles?
I collected a heaping handful and the coloured glass is now gleaming underwater in a glass block in a kitchen window.
There were two men who were 'partying' on the beach when I first passed but on their departure they left, not bottles, but three beer cans.
