(re-post)
Got a hula hoop at a garage sale yesterday.
Are they making a come-back? I seem to be seeing more and more lately and this one looks new so maybe they never went out of production.
It took me a zillion times to even basically get it circling my waist but, oh, when I did -what an incredible satisfaction.
Now, do all hula hoopers spin the hoop - half a sec, have to go and check direction - counterclockwise?
In Australia do they do it the opposite?
My body seems to be moving clockwise as the hoop goes the other way.
Some scientific principle in operation here, perhaps? Gravity sure plays a part.
I figure I get equal exercise bending down to pick up the hoop each time gravity claims it.
And it isn't lack of hips that keeps it falling, as it might have been when I first mastered the feat half a century ago. What fun.
Oh - theme of garage sales was actually no theme: could have been fact of going to church and school sales, which would seem to intensify the theme, so many people taking part. But it didn't. Or I was in overwhelm from all the input and my 'theme awareness' was obliterated!
