Another Gift from Crows

A month ago this was the gift. 

Today the crow couple flew across and one of them dropped this onto the ground  of the patio. One of the men getting out of a truck at the curb said,  "One of those crows just dropped that bird!"

One of the crows then sat on a nearby roof and the other on the roof above my table where they, in the past, have directly dropped a plug of dried earth and other  found objects.  

I believe the sparrow was a 'found object', not a fresh kill.

I followed the usual ritual when presented with a gift from such creatures in such a manner:  I went and looked at it closely,  expressed my gratitude for the gift, then carefully wrapped it in a napkin and set it on the ledge by the table.  The crows watched all this carefully.  

They then came down to the ground and accepted the small piece of fish I threw each of them.  It has not been my experience that they do this simply to get food.  Often I have finished eating when they gift me;  today I had not received my lunch yet.  I took the sparrow's body home and buried it in the garden.
