(re-post)
This morning's tea is licorice root, fenugreek seeds and lapsang souchong leaves in whatever amount felt right to combine in the strainer; steeped for about five minutes.
The licorice gives a natural sweetness, the fenugreek will help with a sinus flare-up and the smokey lapsang souchong adds the element of outdoors which is particularly pleasing at this time of year when doors and windows are mostly closed.
Later in the day, making a fresh cup of tea by submerging the strainer with the blend that has then had time to intensify in combination will produce a slightly different beverage and it will be interesing to see which flavour prevails. I'll likely eat the fenugreek seeds, which will have softened, for their health benefits and also to bring back memories of Sunday meals at an Indian restaurant on the Danforth in Toronto many years ago. Sag sarson with makki ki roti was the major attraction.
