(re-post)
Remember rag bags? The one I knew as a child hung on the inside of the pantry door and was where no- longer- wearable clothing ended up to be used for patches or material for doll clothes and puppet theatre curtains and mud pie tea party napkins. And rags.
And quilts.
This quilt was made from somebody's rag bag collection. It was a thrift store find treasure. I love to look at each and every patch and imagine what type of garment it came from, touch the different textures, trace the embroidered stitches, wonder at the process involved in the selection and placement. It has no batting, just the top and bottom; perhaps it was made and used in a warm climate where the warmth was not needed - just the beauty of a cover.
I have made quilts with a top and a bottom and something between.
Awhile ago I got to thinking about the 'something between' and how it is never seen. At the same time I had acquired a fleece. One day, while looking at the lovely fleece, I got the idea to use it for batting, in a way that could be 'seen'.
Pictured is the work in progress. I think I will do a small project and see how it works before committing to something like a large garment or a bed covering. (click on photo to enlarge)
(I have made several objects with visible fleece batting. One is a moebius vest. Hmmm. If I have a photo of it I could post it.)
