The flame is floating.  On water with a slice of oil on top of the water.  With a wick anchored in a clear plastic float.

With Solstice in two weeks I remembered these Flambuoyants which appeared in a bunch at church sales a month or so ago (this puzzles and delights me how items will appear in herds at different sales; what causes people to suddenly get rid of their Glen Campbell records or  exercise bikes or .... Flambuoyants).

The brochure is from 1970 and I have had them at various times over the past forty years.  I don't think I have ever had them at Solstice.
