(re-post)
Finding myself standing in the supermarket in front of a display of toilet tissue (on sale, the reason I stopped) for a length of time unwarranted by a simple choice - I suddenly realized it was the choices offered that were causing the delay. Not too many choices, exactly; the considerations necessary to make a choice.
Ultra soft ... or .... extra strong. 200 sheets or 176 sheets. Absorbent or dependable clean. 24.2 or 21.3 (not sure what that referred to). A large bear on the ultra soft package cuddling up to a large roll of paper. Or a large bear with a bow on the strong package in company with a small bear sort of nuzzling a roll.
The rest was the same. 12 double rolls = 24 single rolls. Price the same.
The funny aspects of the whole thing suddenly got to me and I started to laugh. Then whipped out my camera and took a picture figuring this would cause less consternation (well, okay, maybe a different kind of alarm) than a senior lady chuckling to herself. It's been many years since I carried a press card but the power of the word "journalist" or "media" influences me still.
I quickly moved onto the next aisle with the canned pineapple - not on sale. Forgot totally to buy birdseed.
