Tinwork stair riser: A length of six-inch flashing from the hardware store, ball hammer, awl, ruler and grease pencil are the materials needed. Draw design with pencil and ruler. Use awl and hammer to pierce the 'tin'; use ball end of hammer to pound the design on edges and ends.
Attach to riser on stair with small finishing nails. This brightens up and adds interest to a stairwell.
Cushiony stair tread: A yoga mat, cut to the width of the stair and attached with double-sided tape, softens the stepping up and down.
Upholstery fabric 'flooring' : The brown leather-looking flooring seen from the top step is upholstery fabric; it is a work in progress and so far I am more than pleased.
