On the radio this morning I heard "Mint Taking Pennies Out of Circulation". And for a moment or two I amused myself with the notion that a candy was responsible for a now non-circulating status of the coins.
The radio piece went on to speculate what old pennies were worth and just how many pennies were being saved/collected/hoarded.
This is my present stash. In the past they would have gathered over many months and eventually been rolled into maybe three or four dollars worth and taken to the bank. Not sure what will happen to them now, this seeming end-of-the road group.
Thirty years ago this is what I was doing with pennies. Click on Preview this book; scroll to Contents and the Funny I Happened to Be There section; or just go to page 109. (Sorry, I have not yet figured out how to provide a direct link)
