While standing in line at the grocery store I noticed that the little girl behind me was holding a package of Silly Bandz and talking, excitedly, with her grandmother about them. Having only found out about them recently I, interestedly, joined in the conversation and learned that they are lots of fun and there are favourites and some are really hard to get and some kids have lots and lots and lots and you give them to people and people give them to you and you trade them with people and people trade them with you and if you really like someone you might give them one of your best ones and (here her voice dropped to a delighted whisper) Mrs. Foster has banned them in her class but her teacher doesn't mind.
I liked what I was hearing. I liked the interaction of her comrades. I liked her excitement. I liked how her grandmother and I shared these feelings.
When I got home I googled and found this. Wow. I ought to have known others (lots of others) would have leaped onto the bandwagon. I did not find Bob Dylan. But there is Elvis and retro items (tie dyed!). There is a Beetle VW - can the Beatles be far behind. There is fashion and spirituality and commerce and ecology and music ..... There is a United States pack so I suppose there must be a Canadian one or one in the making. And maybe one of other countries of places I have lived (India, England) or have an interest in (Poland, Australia, Ireland).
What fun. What wonderful fun.
