The bolt of window screening at a local church sale archeological dig triggered my !fabric! antennae and I wondered how it would translate into a garment.
As a screen on a door or window I had no idea of the flexibility or liveliness of it as material. It can be folded and shaped but it has a mind of its own.
The napkin sketch and subsequent drawing on paper with intended measurements - dictated by the width of the material - were suggestions. The actual cutting and design were fabric-speak.
The edges were not sharp, as I expected. I think this is nylon or fibre glass. Will have to google.
It is a vest at the moment and may remain as such; adding sleeves is an option.
I like the integrity of the stable edges.
I like how the two pieces, one lengthwise, one widthwise, in the placing rectangularly assumed angled positions. Both at the shoulders and the back seam.
I like how the overlaps of seams remained overlaps and avoided bulk.
I like the pins. There was the thought to sew with thread either by machine or hand but the look of the basting pins delights me for the moment. I love safety pins and enjoy featuring them; they have such a bad reputation.
How does it feel to wear? Awesome. It 'moves' with and around the body; clothing as architecture.
