An old Irish tweed Burberry coat was discovered on a church sale dig.
In a 3 a.m. play/think tank the idea suddenly came to cut parts of the coat into strips and use the coat as the loom and these strips as the warp on which to weave handspun yarn.
A piece under the collar was tried first to see how it looked and if it seemed it would work.
Yes!
I am not sure if it is done. The coat and the fibre and I are still in dialogue. There is something quite satisfying about working on such a 'loom' with hands alone as the tools and truly 'sensing' the process. It was fun to wear it on a stroll today.
Karen you have outdone yourself once again. The loom coat is fabulous, amazing and inspiring. I'm thinking of taking all my coats and re-weaving them into something new. Maybe not all of them.....

I dunno, Karen; I think a Burberry coat is a fine thing in itself. Especially if wearing some cologne of the same name. (I am not fond of most scents, but that one I love from afar.)
I said I would send you a photo of random-dyed warp in a scarf. This is not a multicolored one, but will give you an idea. I think you have an email address I can attach photos.
Also a photo of a smattering of craft booklets given me by someone; I will give them to thelibrary, but thought of you, as there are lots of random ideas from the 70'sand 80s. I could send you some if you like.

Morning Lynn
I look forward to how you would translate a coat as a loom!!! Your weaving is exquisite.

Hello Fran
I didn't know there was a scent Burberry - what comes to mind is wet pavement in sun after a rain... I have your email with photos and will reply there - thanks!
