This is her first book - published in England in 1938
The Book of Knitting Patterns came out in 1943.
On the flyleaf of the first book.
A wealth of information, history, patterns, techniques.
Double knitting, Shetland knitting, spiral knitting, embroidered knitting, beaded knitting, frame/rake knitting, thick and thin knitting (varying the yarn), thick and thin knitting (varying the needle size), medallion knitting, lace knitting, etc.!!!
If I could only have two books on knitting......
Several attempts over the years since I 'chanced' on her (at a church book sale) to find out more about Mary Thomas have not met with much success.
Who was she? Why does she seem to be so unknown or undiscovered?
Her knitting books have been re-issued and are more than worthy of consideration.
Mary Thomas, who are you when you are at home?
There are a number of first edition books by Mary Thomas on eBay at the moment both in the USA & UK (knitting, embroidery, knitting patterns, etc) if you would like to send me your email address I would be happy to send you the links as I have added them all to my watch list. Regards, Karin

Thank you, Karin, for this lead as to where to get her books. I am hoping to come up with information on the woman herself and it is a mystery to me as to why my several attempts over the years to come up with any details of her life have - not!
