Finger knitting came to mind and digits several months back prompted by a young lady who was doing this at the Knitting Cafe and kindly showed me her technique. I knew about using thumb or forefinger but she showed me the three finger method and I went on to use four and realize you get a flat or round effect depending on whether you take wool back and forth across fingers or under and around. It is wonderfully satisfying and results in a lovely lacey strip of knitting. You would think the notion of finger crochet would have come 'hard on the heels' of finger knitting. But it didn't. It was a phrase in a book - "the finger as hook" - that got me experimenting. Since my finger is a large hook I found that rope works best. It's fascinating. And again satisfying using the simplest of 'tools' - something attached to me! So far I've made chains and circles. I'm imagining a basket of some sort. Perhaps a rug to lay on another flat rug of contrasting colour so the texture and stitch of the crocheted rug will be evident. I bet one could finger crochet a hanging chair or hammock. Now I am going to go and Google and expect to find ten zillion (in eleven.six seconds) references to others who are madly and gladly finger crocheting!
