Little ice wreaths in the fog
It is unfortunate that across forty-four winters in Ontario I never knew about ice wreaths - all that cold weather wasted! I am now alerted thanks to Margie I couldn't wait for the next cold snap here on Vancouver Island (actually I could wait - happily forever) but I had to experience them now.
I put water and snowberries and holly berries and variegated leaves in a donut pan and froze it.
Strung the small wreaths on some clear fishing line so they would appear to float. Hung them outdoors on a branch. It was foggy. I stood and stared. They were enchanting.
They were melting as I finished taking their pictures.
AMAZING!! Absolutely amazing and beautiful...
I'm thinking (isn't that why we are awake at this ungodly hour..always thinking!!) that if one put bird seed or berries into these wreaths they would be excellent birdfeeders during the cold weather? hmmmm...
I did my store demo at WalMart in Langford yesterday AND Saturday...Kellogg's Straws...cereal formed into straws..kids drink their milk thru them..then eat the straws!!
There were people all over the place CONSTANTLY ...add Santa being at the store to an already busy preChristmas shopping weekend...it was such fun. THEN Santa walked thru the store and gave me a high-five...WHERE WAS MY CAMERA!!!!

Your little ice wreaths turned out lovely. Keep some ready in the freezer for the next cold spell you get out there in Victoria.

Thank you Esther for bringing us samples of those cereal straws to knitting today - and I'd like to know how it turns out when your friend makes ice wreaths with birdseed inside.

Thanks, Crafty. Freezer wreaths on hand is a good idea. Can imagine my boys, when younger, thinking I had made some new kind of popsicle!
